The many shrines of Hiryuu

The Adventures of Musashi A very simple RPG that was released in Japan for the Famicom (NES). It has a light hearted feel to it, and is probably worth a play if you like old-school RPGs.
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow Castlevania is one of the all-time great video game series, and the action-RPGs in the series never fail to impress. Aria of Sorrow is no exception. Great GBA graphics combined with a genuinely fun "soul-stealing" system and a large variety of weapons, equipment and items make Aria of Sorrow one of the best Action-RPGs of all time!
Chronicle of the Radia War The quintessential NES action-RPG. Plays a bit like Secret of Mana, although a little slower. It's every bit as fun though. A real pity it never saw a release outside of Japan...
Chrono Cross The long-awaited sequel to Chrono Trigger. The game has received criticism for deviating radically from Chrono Trigger, but standing on its own, it's still a great game.
Chrono Trigger This was the game that got me hooked on RPGs. It has excellent graphics for a SNES game, and has a certain "something" that makes it absolutely irresistable. =P
Crusader of Centy A true diamond in the rough for the Genesis series. This is a very good action RPG, which is similar to Zelda in some ways, but still has a flavor of its own.
Dragon Quest V The world's most popular RPG series' first foray into 16 bit waters. The graphics may not astound anybody, and the gameplay remained mostly unchanged from the last installment, but Dragon Quest V still remains one of the best 16 bit RPGs created.
Earthbound Zero The never released in America prequel to Earthbound. The story to this game is quite similar to Earthbound, and the characters (with the exception of one) are pretty much just carbon copies of Earthbounds. Nevertheless, it's a completely different game. You should play it if you're a fan of Earthbound.
Final Fantasy IV The "real" version of Final Fantasy IV (not like the Easy Type version that was released in America as FFII). This version has more items, techniques, and difficulty than the easy type version. Note that I didn't "make" the shrine, Nezzer did. I'm just currently maintining it, that's all.
Glory of Heracles II A Dragon Quest clone that was released in Japan on the Famicom (NES). The fact that it successfully mimics DQ games so accurately makes this a very good game. Hopefully the rest of the series (2 Famicom games, 2 Super Famicom games and a Game Boy game) gets translated soon.
Grandia Back when it was first released on the Saturn in 1997, this game was touted as the "Final Fantasy VII killer" when it was first released on the Sega Saturn, and while that may not have been true, it was a solid game filled with wonderful characters oozing with personality, and an adventurous spirit.
Great Greed An environmentally-conscious, food-themed RPG. You think that sounds weird? Wait until you play the game. Despite the strange themes presented throughout the game, Great Greed is essentially a very solid Game Boy RPG... one of the best the Game Boy saw during its early years. Besides the laughable script just adds to the game's charm.
Legend of the Ghost Lion This game was released in America on the NES, but it seems nobody's heard of it...It's a simple, short game with sub-par graphics, and a questionable engine. But it's got a couple of innovations, so it might be worth checking out.
Paladin's Quest A lesser-known SNES offering, Paladin's Quest was a brightly colored RPG published by Enix in 1994. Its unusual art style alienated many gamers, but the game was unique and enjoyable enough to carve itself a worthy niche in RPGdom.
Paper Mario Who says the N64 wasn't an RPG console? This is a delightful game with an awesome art style and an impeccable sense of humor. What it lacks in complexity, it makes up with in pure, unadulturated FUN.
Phantasy Star Gaiden A side-story of the Phantasy Star series. This game was released in Japan only on the Game Gear system. This game is very short and simple, but it makes a good time killer, especially if you are a fan of the series.
Super Mario RPG A joint project between Nintendo and Square for the SNES. What comes out is a game with great graphics, great gameplay, and the Mario characters everybody knows and loves.
Sweet Home An AMAZING RPG made by Capcom and released only for the Famicom (NES) in Japan. It has a very cinematic feel to it, and consists of a five character party making its way through a haunted mansion.
The Twisted Tales of Spike McFang A great light-hearted action RPG for the SNES. You play as a vampire who fights enemies (such as walking garlic cloves) by throwing your hat at them. All in all, it's a fun little game.
Warrior Dragon The fact that this game's name is so similar to Dragon Warrior is no coincidence. Warrior Dragon is a freeware RPG that parodies Enix's famous RPG series, pitting you in the role of a dragon. A very short, but fun game... it's the perfect game to play though on a rainy weekend.
